Summit County Domestic Relations Court will be closed in anticipation of the upcoming total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. This in line with the Summit County Executive’s Office and the General Division of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas limiting public access to downtown county buildings.
The decision comes amidst concerns over heavy traffic and congestion expected in the area due to the influx of visitors coming to witness the rare celestial event. On February 13, 2024 the Summit County Executive’s Office strongly recommended residents to view the eclipse from the comfort of their homes to alleviate traffic congestion, additional measures to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.
As the Victims’ Assistance Office located in the Summit County Domestic Relations Court building will be closed, individuals seeking Civil Protection Orders should contact Victim Assistance Program on that day for assistance 330-376-0040.
“We have carefully considered the potential impact of the solar eclipse on our community and have decided that closing Summit Domestic Relations Court is in the best interest of public safety,” stated Administrative Judge Katarina Cook. “As a Family Court, we encourage our staff and residents alike to spend time with family to share in this once in a lifetime celestial event.”
